Wishing you a very happy and prosperous new decade and the year 2010

The new year will continue to be dominated by the last two legs of the Saturn-Uranus opposition. This opposition has five legs total ( due to the retrograde motion of both Saturn and Uranus) of which three have already occurred. The first leg was Oct 27 - Nov 14 of 2008 during the historical US presidential election race and the election of the first African-American president Barack Obama.

The second leg occurred during January 26 - February 13, 2009, and it was marked by the financial market turmoil and the influence of President Obama with respect to the international politics. The third leg occurred during September 9 - 21, 2009, and as predicted last year, it marked the emergence of heavy debate on the health care reform and the beginning of the financial market recovery.

Last year's (2009) prediction due to the influence of the 2nd and 3rd legs of the opposition as follows: [Note: "first opposition" in the text below refers to the first opposition in 2009, but the 2nd leg].

The Leo-Aquarius axis for both the Uranus and Saturn very strong and intense since Saturn resides in the challenging sign Leo. The manifestation of this opposition during January 26 - February 13 is likely to result in another round of challenges of economical downturn, volatile oil prices, increased violence in the Middle-East (Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Israel and Palestine), political challenges for the US president as well as for US lawmakers. At a subtle level, the people's perception of life and life philosophies will go through a painful transformation as demanded by this forceful Saturn-Uranus opposition.

While the first opposition will be responsible for chaotic and painful social, economical and political challenges, the next opposition will bring us hope and stability as Uranus moves into the sidereal spiritual sign Pisces and Saturn into a friendly Virgo. Therefore, beginning about September 9, 2009, the manifestation of the second Uranus-Saturn opposition of 2009 will reflect in the beginning of economic and political stability across the globe and more optimistic and hopeful environment around. There will be more mending of political and moral differences between the cultures and nations. However, as far as the religions are concerned this will be the period of painful but needed transformation from morality standpoint. There will be a host of challenges that religious leaders must face and deal with to survive and evolve.

The fourth and fifth legs of the Saturn-Uranus opposition will occur in 2010 along the sidereal Virgo-Pisces axis:

In my opinion, these two legs of the Saturn-Uranus opposition will be positive for the country since the oppositions occur along the creative and spiritual Virgo-Pisces axis. Manifestations of these oppositions will be world financial market growth and less political instability around the world.

Two other important planetary influences for 2010 will have negative and positive impacts. The occurrence of the retrograde Mars in sidereal Cancer, and Mars's stay in Cancer (a debilitated water sign) for almost the entire first half of year (until May 26) will have a primarily negative impact. It will be responsible for natural and man-made calamities, increased violence in Middle East and Afghanistan region, increased fire- related accidents, volatility in the financial markets, and in general, an anxiety-filled atmosphere all around the world. However, Jupiter's unprecedented transit through Aquarius (only taking 4 months to transit through Aquarius and enter Pisces on May 1) means a great deal of prosperity and advances in science and technology. Aquarius is the most powerful air sign representing the intelligence as well as spirituality. With the presence of Neptune in Aquarius and Uranus in Pisces (a sign ruled by Jupiter), I wouldn't be surprised if the world gets transcended to a new level of intelligence and creativity.

In summary, with the exception of Mars in Cancer through the first 6 months, the year 2010 will be largely positive. The positive aspects of the dominant Saturn-Uranus opposition will be accentuated by Jupiter's accelerated transit in Aquarius, the presence of Neptune in Aquarius, Uranus in Pisces, and Pluto in Sagittarius (another sign ruled by Jupiter), leading to rising economic and political stability. International issues will predominantly deal with economy, morality, religion and general well being of the human race. The world will become closer and instantaneous communications will continue to make us feel like a borderless world.

Despite the challenges of economic growth around the world, advances in technology and sciences will be absolutely phenomenal. The major scientific and technological breakthroughs in fields of medicine, biotechnology, high technology and space science will be noticeable.

Monthly Global Prediction for January 2009: The year 2010 is going to begin with the accelerated Jupiter's transit in Aquarius lasting through the end of April, and the retrograde Mars, which stays in Cancer through the first half of the year. The important planetary configurations for January include: Pluto-Saturn square (Jan 1-Feb 13), Neptune-Saturn (Dec 13 - Jan 13) ninefold opposition, Pluto-Rahu (Jan 16-23) and Uranus-Rahu (Jan 19-25) ninefold quincunxes, and Pluto-Uranus (Dec 6 - Feb 20) ninefold conjunction. Other important planetary configurations include Neptune-Ketu (Jan 2-9) and Saturn-Rahu (Jan 3-12) ninefold trines.

The deadly influence of the debilitated retrograde Mars in the water sign Cancer will be reflected in upheaval of political and religious worlds in next four to five months. Financial markets will become extremely volatile. Destruction of wealth due to natural calamities or man made accidents are also very likely. Other possibilities include a positive shift in spiritual world, outbreak of war or war like atmosphere in Afghanistan-Pakistan-India region.

On the other hand, the Jupiter's unprecedented transit through Aquarius ( taking only 4 months to transit through Aquarius and enter Pisces on May 1) means a great deal of prosperity and advances in science and technology. Aquarius being the most powerful air sign representing intelligence as well as spirituality, and with the presence of Neptune in Aquarius, Uranus in Pisces (a sign ruled by Jupiter) and Pluto in Sagittarius (another sign ruled by Jupiter again), I wouldn't be surprised if the world gets transcended to a new level of intelligence and creativity in next four months.

On the downside, the occurrence of total solar eclipse on January 15 may accelerate the degree of violence or terrorism in the Middle East (especially Israel, Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran) countries.

While Pluto-Saturn square may become responsible for increased violence, and man-made and natural calamities in the Middle East region , the Neptune-Saturn ninefold opposition is likely to manifest itself into rise in secretive world politics, especially in Russia and China. In addition, the negative forces of Pluto-Rahu and Uranus-Rahu ninefold quincunxes will reflect in increased political tension and political differences between European Union and the United States. The Pluto-Uranus ninefold conjunction will manifest itself in scientific advances and technological breakthrough in areas such as biotechnology, medicine, high tech and space science. The auspicious Neptune-Ketu and Saturn-Rahu ninefold trines will be positive for world economical growth and possibility of political stability in the Middle-East region.

The countries that are most likely to be affected during this month will be: Middle-East (Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestine and Israel), Russia, China, USA and the European countries.

For President Obama, his operating planet Ketu will continue to be in the eleventh house of his progressive chart for the entire month. As a result, he will continue to be successful in dealing with both domestic and foreign policy issues. and as a result, his popularity will be on rise. However, especially since December 24, his operating planet Mars, being retrograde in the twelfth house of his progressive chart will be responsible for some extraordinary difficult period that he must endure until January 11. But after Jan 11, he is likely to enjoy a good period for the rest of the month during which most of his political wishes will begin to bear fruits. In addition, the transiting Saturn will be making an auspicious trine aspect to his natal moon, and its manifestation will be reflected in his successful dealing with foreign counterparts and dignities. Individual Predictions: On December 27, the planet Mercury turned retrograde in sidereal Sagittarius. It will stay retrograde until Jan 16 in Sagittarius. Typically a retrograde Mercury means anxieties, communication breakdowns, unexpected delays, frustrations, missing deadlines, unforeseen obstacles and disappointment in daily chores. Retrograde Mercury in Sagittarius means more frustrating periods for explorers, entrepreneurs, philanthropist, philosophers, entertainers and religious leaders. This is the time not to start a new project or venture, but rather reflect on what's been done so far. Also, this is the best time to cleanup that closet and do other chores that you have been postponing due to lack of time.

In addition, if you have a dominating Mercury in your birth chart, and if your current planetary cycle provides the results of Mercury then you are more likely to experience the pronounced effects of retrograde Mercury during this period with respect to matters signified by the house it's transiting in your progressive chart.
