Cannabis Seeds - Amnesia Haze

Amnesia Haze from the High Quality Seed Bank, Amsterdam
by Steve & Dawn

The Heinemann English dictionary defines: Anmesia.- (noun)- A loss of memory. Haze.- (noun) A suspension of fine dust, smoparticespour partides in the air, which reduces visibility. Word usage 'I'm hazy in the mornings,' = (Vague state of mind.) Word family,- Haze. (verb) - To become misty or blurred.

So, it all started with the arrival of 20 Amnesia Haze regular Cannabis seeds courtesy of those folk at Soft Secrets UK. I started 14 of the seeds between moist tissue, and within 48hrs all had split (the first one split after only 18hrs!) I planted all 14 in 3, 1/2" pots, in a mix of Perlite and potting compost at a ratio of about 40/60. The potting compost was nothing special, just a good quality middle of the road affair. I have found in the last year or so that some of these expensive "wonder stuff" compost's are really heavily loaded with nutrients and some plants, like Blueberries really don't like them when they're young. For the next 27 days the plants lived in their own 3' x 3' enclosure under a 400w M/Halide. By using a Halide not a Sodium for the veg, I had hoped to keep their early growth compact.
At day 16 I pinched the top out of 3 of them, I did it for no other reason than to try and compare final yield. At this stage of growth the leaves were quite broad and dark, more reminiscent of an Indica. In the 27 days of 18/6 light & dark (veg) they got fed nothing more than what was in the potting compost mix, and as they were repotted on day 18 in to 7" wide x 12" deep pots, and in the same 40/60 mix they didn't go short on food. The 3' x3' enclosure where they vegged had no heat problems as it had two lower vents (12" x 4") and was floor to ceiling high (9') with a 6" extractor at the top, but I rarely had it on. Two days before I moved them to their shiny new bloom area, I started to feed them Canna Terra Flores at the prescribed dosage. On day 29 (from first wetting the cannabis seeds) I turned off the light and left them in total darkness for 36hrs. I have found that with many (but not all) species, 36 - 48hrs of total darkness will bring them in to flower a little quicker (this works even better with clones). In the vegative part of the grow the Amnesia was very quick to germinate, but the next 18 days were very reminiscent of totally pissed sex, you think a lot's happening, but alas, it's not! (I've had plants like White Widow, Super Skunk, Ak48, that have been much much bigger at 18 days.) But, after day 18 the whole lot exploded with growth. At day 25, they averaged 7" -8" high, with 5 or 6 nodes, 4 days later (day 29) and they average 11" - 12" high, and 8, or 9 nodes.
Bloom
Newly built Bloom area. This was needed due to a small war I'd been waging with several thousand battalions of spider mites. Unfortunately I lost the battle. Sharing the area would be some White Widow, Blueberries, Purple Tops & Shiva clones. All of which were clean and spider mite free. Normally I am a `Glass half full' sort of bloke, but I had a nasty feeling that the mites were there, somewhere, watching, waiting, building their morale with hidden sex & drug parties, just waiting to again take up arms against me. Bastards!
The Bloom room is 6' long x 3' wide x 5'6" high, it's walls got covered in Mylar and it's Base covered in black pond liner. (In 16 odd years of inside, outside, upside, downside, growing I have learnt more than once that, no matter how careful you are, and no matter how much you think you won't, eventually you'll accidently dump a
shit load of water everywhere but where you want it. Pond liner cost a few quid, carpets & electrics, a lot lot more!) The bottom of the sides of the enclosure
have a series of vent flaps. The top of the enclosure also has vents plus there is a powerful 6" extractor. Inside the area are 4 x 6" fans drawing cool air through the vent flaps, angled to blow air up through the plants. The whole area is lit by 2 x 400w Sodium's, housed in home made polished ally reflectors. These eventually hang from pulley's and cord for raising and lowering.
Soft Secrets lege
For the first 19 days of 12/12 the plants gained a fair bit of height, some more than others, but were not showing any signs of florescence, not even males (although I had a good idea from dose earlier observations that several were going to be male). By day 22 (12/12) there were four males showing and one female, by day 25 there was six males, two hermaphrodites and one female,
by day 29 there were 10 males, two Hermaphrodites and two females. Hmm! I separated the Hermaphrodites in the hope they might eventually give up and turn pure female, but if anything they were more male orientated. I kept the Hermaphrodites and have since crossed them with themselves (obviously), and with the other two female Amnesias, Blueberries and the Purple Tops. So
I was left with just two ladies, one of them was topped, which in a way was lucky, as in my enthusiasm towards my shiny new (bug free) bloom room (and after I had fully taken heed of the sacred words spoken time & again by Soft Secrets, which are `YOU NEED MORE LIGHT') I had totally and utterly failed in my calculations as to how many plants I could get in without having what we now fondly call 'Soft Secrets legs', on all the plants. Those `legs' being the naked bud free lower branches `softly & secretly' hiding below the canopy where there ain't enough light. From above, green & lush & buddy. From below, an alien world, void of anything smokeable, and full of long scary 'Soft Secrets legs'. Unfortunately this is where I was heading with far too many plants .    never learn.
By day 35 the Amnesia's were starting to burst with flower, by day 46 they were both exploding with flora. By now resin production was in full flow and both plants looked really sexy (despite the 'Soft Secrets legs'!). By day 53 things had started to slow down on
the flowering front, and by day 56 the plants seem to, in true Sativa fashion, very slowly, but surely, do nothing. Luckily the `Bloom' room was full (to bloody full) of other budding beauties, so I had plenty to do to keep my mind off of what I thought was going to be millennia waiting for the Amnesia's to finish. In fairness it didn't take long at all, over the next 16 days the two lone ladies fattened and on day 72 of
12/12 I cut them down. They could well have gone for Tonger as only 15-20%
of the flowers had 'browned' off, and the resin was still clear, but I wanted to catch them early to try and keep them as 'clean clear & fresh' as possible. During the bloom the 2 Amnesias got fed Canna Terra Flores for breakfast
with every watering, after 20 or so days of 12/12 I upped the feed dose to 2530m1 per litre, and from day 35 to day 45 they also had 5m1 per litre PK13-14. From day 60 they were flushed with pure water until cutting.
The plants were trimmed and hung for 5 days with a gentle breeze from a fan, I then hung them in a cool cupboard for 6 more days, and from there to a glass jar which ordinarily I would open and dose every other day to let the buds 'breathe', but at the moment am opening all the time as it's such a ravishing smoke. It doesn't smell like I expected, it is quite citrusy, lemon soap comes to mind. The smoke is smooth considering it hasn't matured yet, and you don't really taste the citrus lemon, in fact the taste seems neutral, with no after taste.
The stone is very creepy, and when it does come on it's pretty intense, racing heart, palpitations, tingling fingers and legs, that passes and is replaced by a warm cosy full on `stone' as much in the Body as in the mind. It's not `nervey or jumpy', but it can make you slur your words if you smoke a lot. Also it's quite long lasting. It's one of those smokes you want to smoke all the time, and
it's not because you shouldn't that you don't, it's because you can't. No matter how little you seem to use, 10 mins later and the result is the same, you're totally trashed. Not so good for work, or in fact doing anything important, more for chilling and socialising with like minded folk. If you smoke a lot of it, it can be a little trippy, but it's such a warm, rich stone, that no matter how mangled you get, you'll be smiling.

Yield

This was the shock! Considering the plants were showing 'Soft Secrets legs', and seeing that there has been a presence of bloody spider mites again (although they are now under control, who the hell am I kidding.) and considering they are not very big, the tollest gave 58g of dry buds and the topped one gave 43g. I think that with more space (light) and more size to the plant, maybe 38 days veg, a very respectable yield could easily be obtained.

Amnesia Haze is a strain I would recommend to anyone, it's not particulaly hard to grow, and it's 70-80 days of flowering looks quite capable of producing very good yields.

Till the next grow!
